2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
Create and manage your account
Save your learning progress across sessions and devices
Personalize your experience, including correct Amharic address forms
Provide AI-powered pronunciation feedback via Speaking Practice
Track your daily goals and learning streaks
Improve the app based on how it is used
Send you a welcome email when you complete onboarding (if you have not opted out)
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the following trusted service providers who help us operate Fidal:
Supabase — database and authentication (supabase.com)
Google OAuth — sign-in authentication (google.com)
Addis AI — Amharic text-to-speech, speech recognition, and conversational AI (addisassistant.com)
Anthropic — AI grading for fill-in-the-blank activities via Claude (anthropic.com). Only your typed answer and the correct word are sent — no personal information is included.
Vercel — hosting, infrastructure, and anonymous usage analytics (vercel.com)
Each provider has their own privacy policy governing how they handle data.
4. Voice Data
When you use Speaking Practice, your voice is recorded briefly, sent to Addis AI for transcription, and the result is returned to the app. Fidal does not store your voice recordings. Audio is processed ephemerally by Addis AI and is not used to train their models. Please review Addis AI's privacy policy for full details on how they handle audio data.
5. AI Services and Data Handling
Fidal uses two AI services:
Addis AI — powers text-to-speech audio, speech recognition, and the Addis conversational practice feature. Inputs and outputs are processed ephemerally and are not stored or used for model training by Addis AI.
Anthropic Claude — used only to grade fill-in-the-blank answers. Only the typed answer and the correct word are sent. No personal data, name, email, or account information is included in these requests.
Fidal imposes per-user daily limits on all AI feature usage to prevent misuse.
6. Sound Preferences
Your sound on/off preference is stored as a simple boolean value in your profile. No audio data is involved. In-app sounds such as celebration chimes are generated entirely client-side using the Web Audio API and are never transmitted to any server.
7. Data Retention
We retain your account and learning progress data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at the email below.
8. Childrens Privacy
Fidal is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Security
We use industry-standard security practices including HTTPS encryption, secure authentication via Supabase, and row-level security on our database to protect your information. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
10. Your Rights
You have the right to:
Access the personal information we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate data
Request deletion of your account and all associated data
Withdraw marketing consent at any time by replying to any email from us
