Welcome to Fidal. By accessing or using the Fidal application at learnfidal.com, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. Please read them carefully before using the app.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using Fidal, you confirm that you are at least 13 years of age and agree to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy at learnfidal.com/privacy. If you do not agree, please do not use Fidal.

2. Description of Service

Fidal is an Amharic language learning application that provides flashcards, quizzes, speaking practice, conversational AI practice, and other educational activities. The app is currently in beta and is provided free of charge. Features and availability may change at any time.

3. Your Account

• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account
• You must provide accurate information when creating your account
• You may not share your account with others or use another persons account
• You must notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access to your account

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use Fidal for any unlawful purpose
• Attempt to reverse engineer, hack, or disrupt the service
• Use automated tools or bots to access the service
• Abuse AI-powered features in a way that incurs excessive costs or violates third-party terms
• Impersonate any person or entity
• Upload or transmit any harmful, offensive, or inappropriate content

5. Intellectual Property

All content in Fidal, including the app design, Amharic lesson content, audio, and branding, is owned by Fidal or its licensors. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute any content from Fidal without our written permission.

Your learning progress data belongs to you. We do not claim ownership over any personal data you provide.

6. AI-Powered Features

Fidal uses two AI services to power learning features:

• Addis AI — provides Amharic text-to-speech audio, speech recognition for Speaking Practice, and the Addis conversational practice feature. Audio inputs are processed ephemerally and are not stored or used for model training.
• Anthropic Claude — used to grade fill-in-the-blank answers. Only your typed answer and the correct word are sent. No personal information is included.

These features are provided on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee the accuracy of AI-generated feedback or transcriptions. Daily usage limits apply per user.

7. Beta Service

Fidal is currently in beta. This means:

• The service may contain bugs or errors
• Features may change, be added, or be removed without notice
• We may experience downtime or interruptions
• Your feedback helps us improve — please report issues to us

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

Fidal is provided as-is without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Use of Fidal is at your own risk.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Fidal and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

10. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms of Use. You may also delete your account at any time by contacting us. Upon termination, your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Fidal after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, United States. Any disputes arising from these terms shall be resolved in the courts of North Carolina.
